WNKX-FM Tower Collapses During Weekend Storms

HICKMAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WNKX) — We are sad to report that WNKX's broadcasting tower collapsed following storms over the weekend. The tower delivered WNKX's FM signal for more than 50 years and recently added a visual component, providing the community with a high-definition weather camera for severe weather observation.

"The tower collapsed into the designated safety zone, and no additional property damage occurred," said Will Nunley, owner of Hickman Digital Media, the company that owns WNKX-FM.

"This poses a significant logistical and financial challenge for our company, but we hope we can return to serving our community quickly," Nunley added.

WNKX is working with Hickman County Emergency Management to explore temporary and permanent options to return its signal to full strength. Station leaders say the process of restoring a tower requires coordination with the Federal Communications Commission and other agencies. In the meantime, WNKX's programming continues online through this website and mobile devices, and social media. Our service to the community will not stop, even as we work to overcome this challenge.

"We recently applied for a Small Business Administration Emergency Disaster Loan, and we are awaiting the results of that as well," Nunley added.

Over its 70 years, WNKX-FM has faced several challenges and weathered many storms. We are hopeful we can gather the resources needed to restore this important community beacon.

Our station is grateful for the immediate support offered by Hickman County Emergency Management and the county's 911 director as we research options.

Centerville UMC Returns To Church Building & WNKX-FM, Two Years After Fire

CENTERVILLE, Tenn. (WNKX) — It was a long-awaited celebration and reunion Sunday morning as members of Centerville United Methodist Church returned to their sanctuary nearly two years after a fire damaged the building.

Sunday's worship service served as a rededication not only of the physical structure, but also as a reminder of what church leaders described as the true strength of the church — God and His people.

The service began with leaders thanking the many first responders, construction crews, insurance professionals and church members who contributed to the lengthy rebuilding effort. Church leaders described the community's response following the June 2024 fire as "tremendous." A special dinner is being planned in their honor.

Throughout the service, leaders also expressed gratitude to Shipps Bend United Methodist Church for opening its doors to the Centerville congregation and providing a temporary home during the rebuilding process. Members of the Shipps Bend congregation attended Sunday's service to help celebrate the sanctuary's rededication.

Along with returning to the sanctuary, Centerville United Methodist Church also returned to the airwaves. Continuing a ministry that has spanned decades, the church's 11 a.m. worship service was broadcast on WNKX.

"We are overjoyed to see worshippers back in the sanctuary and honored to share their ministry with our audience on WNKX," said Will Nunley, owner of the station. "This has been such an example of tested faith, answered prayers, perseverance and love. What a remarkable moment for the faithful of Centerville United Methodist Church."

In addition to in-person worship and radio broadcasts, the church also livestreams its services on Facebook.
